Hi Folks,

What an incredible weekend of climbing at Ice Fest 2019. I hardly think we could have asked for a better weekend. There were a ton of great people, some amazing presentations, fabulous clinics and plenty of ice for everyone. Kudos to Brad White and Rick Wilcox, the Ice Fest Crew and all of the awesome volunteers for putting on yet another stupendous event.

I was fortunate to be a part of this years Fest, guiding on Friday and Sunday. Friday was an Alpine Skills clinic up on Willies Slide. It was a chilly day, but at least it wasn't very windy. Sunday I did an Alpine Still climb up Cinema Gully, across the upper tree ledge and ending up doing a pitch on the East Face Slabs. Both days were highly enjoyable for all concerned.

If for some reason you haven't made it to any of the now 26 Ice Fest, you owe it to yourself to make it to at least one. It's quite amazing
For comparison here are a few pictures taken Wednesday and Thursday:

VALLEY CYCLING:
It's pretty terrible right now, but as soon as things chill down it should be great again.

Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. While it doesn't offer every single feature of the site and it's not an "app", in mobile form, it does do a whole lot and is very useful. Here is the live link to the mobile version of NEClimbs:

From Everest Base Camp, you can walk four hours and you're lounging on grass, drinking beer with trekkers. K2 stands absolutely on its own. The approach is hard. The base camp feels like the moon. The mountain itself looks utterly impregnable, and there's no easy way up the thing. And all this hits you between the eyes when you see it for the first time. It's like that famous Munch painting. You know the oneā€”The Scream? Except, of course, you're the one doing the screaming.
