November 22, 2018

Hi Folks,

So Thanksgiving it is...YES. I am grateful for my health, the family that I have even when I don't see them as much as I would like, for the ice and the rock that I can still climb and the friends and partners I climb with, for the bike trails that I can ride right out my back door and my buds that I ride with, for the music that I am still able to play after 51 years and for the friends that I am so very privileged to be able to play with. And for all the friends, loves and lovers I've known in these 71 turns around our yellow Sun.

For me, Thanksgiving is a special day to be grateful for what I have been given. But the gratitude is something I try to do every day. Happy thanks giving to you all. Savor this day my friends. Remember, this is the only November 22nd, 2018 you will have. Love to you all...

THE 2019 FUNDRAISER:
So here is how I spent my Thanksgiving morning. Up at 6:30, coffee and breakfast, get things ready to have people over for dinner this afternoon, and head out at 9 AM to take the weekly winter pictures. And now I'm back in my office at home writing up this week's White Mountain Report. It was 4 degrees here in the Valley this morning when I left the house, and 0 with a chill of -15 at the top of Crawford Notch at around 10.

It really does take a commitment on my part to do this each and every week, so that you folks will have the information you need to make your plans for the coming weekend. If you feel that the White Mountain Report and the Ice Report in particular is valuable to you, please take a minute or two and make a donation of any amount. I would sincerely appreciate your support. Simply go ON LINE and make your donation via PayPal. You don't actually need a PayPal account, you can use almost any credit card. The time and expense of the running and maintaining NEClimbs.com and putting out The White Mountain Report continue all year. But in the winter I put in at least 5 hours every Thursday taking the pictures, processing them, writing the Report, posting the pix on NEClimbs and FaceBook and putting out the email newsletter Report. It's a lot. PLEASE REMEMBER, it's your contribution that makes this newsletter and the NEClimbs web site viable.
You can see many of the Reports on NEClimbs.com web site, I've archived them from as far back as September of 1999! To get a sense of the popularity of the site, current site traffic as of October 26 2017 on NEClimbs.com is about 20,000 UNIQUE visits a day, generating roughly 900,000 monthly "HITS". The White Mountain Report newsletter also goes out to over 1,200 subscribers weekly! If you're one of those, please consider making a donation to the site.

Thank you once again for all of your support...

Ice Conditions Report:
Selected Ice Conditions effective March 21, 2024
I can't actually say that there is nothing out there that can't be climbed. That would be foolish. But for the average, or a little above average climber, that's probably correct. That said, I did hear that there is climbable ice on Parasol in Dixville Notch. Not sure how that will be after we get a foot of heavy wet snow on Saturday. Regardless, here's a few pix I took today just to document things.

YES - A NEW CAMERA:
Last week I broadcast my plea for a new camera to replace my broken and ancient EOS Rebel DSLR and it was answered by Ron Birk. He very generously donated his old used 30D to the cause, a major step up from my Rebel. YUGE thanks to him for his kindness. The Ice Report SHALL go on!

ICE FEST 2019:
Mark your calendars & book your clinics folks! IT'S THE 26TH YEAR of the 2019 Mount Washington Valley Ice Fest: February 1st-3rd, 2019.

VALLEY CYCLING:
The snow has made a mess of everything right now so I haven't been out riding this week. We need some snowmobiles and snowshoers out there packing things down so we can ride, but that will be happening soon enough.

Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. While it doesn't offer every single feature of the site and it's not an "app", in mobile form, it does do a whole lot and is very useful. Here is the live link to the mobile version of NEClimbs:

Check it out and if you have issues on your specific phone, please feel free to let me know.
