2 rehearsals today, a gig tonight and a major storm front that moved through this afternoon/evening has really taken all the bandwidth I have right now. I hope all of you are well and enjoying this topsy-turvy summer. Hopefully I will actually have some time next week to give the Report the love and attention it deserves. In the meantime, get out there and savor whatever you can as much as you can in between the rain and heat. Stay well y'all...
SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION:
Last December 10th I started the my monthly "Duos Jazz Series" at the Majestic Cafe in Conway Village. For my 7th show I am very excited to welcome Florida based jazz pianist and dear friend Michael Levine. I've known Mike since we played in the acclaimed Miami funk band Kepler in the mid-late 70's and he is the REAL DEAL. Mike's fourth album, “Just Chillin”, has yielded two singles placed on SiriusXM Watercolors. We will be playing a mix of his original tunes and reworked jazz standards. This is going to be a great show and I'm very excited about it.
Doors open at 6:30, music at 7pm. Walk ins are always welcome, but reservations recommended. $10 cover with beer, wine and cocktails are available. You can get your tickets online at https://mountaintop.ludus.com/13535
Ice Conditions Report:
Selected Ice Conditions effective February 19, 2026
Just as you would expect following Ice Fest AND a week of truly balmy temps, going to be upper 30's today, the ice can be a mixed bag. I saw someone post about how things are terrible. But digging into it, I realized they were talking about places like the North End that are very well used. It probably gets the most use of all. There are only a few places that have really easy access to moderate climbing and where you can set up a bunch of top-ropes. So that's not unexpected. And of course the climbs that are getting a lot of full sun are getting somewhat punked-out. On my way back from Wolfeboro mid-afternoon a few days ago I took a look at Rainbow Slabs which look as if they are getting pretty funky. And I watched a hunk of the bottom of Way In The Wilderness fall down! IMO it's really the time to start paying attention to what you're walking underneath, any time of the day. Enjoy this weather, but keep paying attention...

SOME LOCAL/NATIONAL PANDEMIC THOUGHTS:
So here's the COVID numbers as best as I can tell folks. The state is being reticent about releasing up to date numbers, but these are darn close. I am not planning on talking about the MonkeyPox virus unless it spreads to the general population. That said, it does point to how easily diseases are spreading around the world. Just sayin...
New Hampshire:
0 New death(s) reported over past 3 days
2,120 Active cases
13 Current hospitalizations being treated for COVID
2,615 Total deaths due to COVID-19
United States:
Confirmed: 91,087,404
Deaths: 1,029,213 (up over 4,000!!!)
I find JHU's Daily COVID-19 Data in Motion report to be very informative. It shares critical data on COVID-19 from the last 24 hours in a short 1 minute animated video format.
OUR ONLY WAY OUT IS IF YOU GET VACCINATED, WHERE RECOMMENDED PLEASE STILL WEAR A MASK, WASH YOUR HANDS!
REMEMBER - WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER
VALLEY CYCLING:
Just to show how busy I have been this week, I've only ridden once this week! That said, even tho we've had big downpours at times, the ground is so dry that within a few hours you wouldn't know it's even rained. The one day I did get out, Tuesday, we had rain overnight and a downpour early afternoon and by 2pm you wouldn't have known. It's so dry the ground literally sucks up the water like a sponge.
Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. While it doesn't offer every single feature of the site and it's not an "app", in mobile form, it does do a whole lot and is very useful. Here is the live link to the mobile version of NEClimbs:
Check it out and if you have issues on your specific phone, please feel free to let me know.

When I began climbing, the rope symbolized trust. Sport climbing turned the rope into 60 meters of vague social contract. Ice and alpine routes reminded me why the rope is a sacred climbing icon; it signifies the unbreakable bond between partners.
Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
