April 27, 2023

Hi Folks,

DADGUMMIT spring is sure being a teaser right now. One nice-ish day, a day of rain, another mediocre day, one more with pouring rain, one sunny and today the traditional April mix. Rain at my house, sunny in town, light showers over in Redstone and gorgeous here at the house at 6. [sheesh] The real downside is that the cliffs are damp, even when it's sunny. We just don't get enough sun, low humidity and warm temps to really dry things out. Of course it's going to happen, it's just a little frustrating. Oh - and the prediction is for possible SNOW SHOWERS tonight!

Except for the first year of Covid, I've pretty much been a gym rat for the past 6 years, hitting it as much as 5 days a week. It's been a good thing for sure, and I can tell the difference. The ice climbing I did this last winter was better than I actually expected. Black Pudding was the peak of my winter and actually it felt surprisingly easy. Who woulda thunk? On recommendation of a massage therapist I know, I started seeing a personal trainer last month to work on my "core" strength. I've never really done that kind of work, so it was much more strenuous than I expected. Work with the big ball, all kinds of planks and a lot more. The idea being to mix it up with my weight training. Oh, one other thing... I've been working out 4-5 days a week. She says that I should only do 3 days as week to give my muscles time to recover. With bike weather on the way, alternating the gym and bike will be the way to go. I'm really looking forward to seeing where this takes me. I find all this quite interesting and I do think it is already making a difference, we shall see. Next thing is my diet! [yikes] Stay tuned.

NOTE: There are starting to be flying bugs out and there assuredly are ticks! Just sayin'.

GO FUND ME FOR ED WEBSTER DAUGHTER AND ARCHIVES::
Henry Barber has put together a GoFundMe for Ed Webster's Climbing Archives and his daughter. Please check it out. If you click the "Read more" link just left of the second picture down you will get a lot more information. Ed gave so much to the climbing community, here's a chance to support his legacy.

DONATIONS::
Thanks to all of you who have donated to NEClimbs & the 2023 White Mountain Report Fundraiser. There are lots of ways to get ice conditions info these days, but after doing this for 22 years I'd like to think I have something unique to offer. If you haven't donated, I would appreciate your support.

VALLEY CYCLING:
Despite all the rainy daze we've had, many trails are in surprisingly decent good. I've ridden the Electric Loop, Power Lines, the new Rec Path, Muffler and the Swenson/Grout trail in Redstone. There was some mud on the power lines, but that's usually the case in the spring. Everything else was good. Go for it folks...

Remember - climb hard, ride far, stay safe and BE NICE.

Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service.
