Hi Folks,

This weather situation is indeed beyond annoying. I keep hoping it won't be like that spring we had quite a few years ago when it rained pretty much every day for 2 months. That said I suppose I will take the rain over the smog-laden air that much of the east coast has been experiencing. I had a rehearsal on Monday in Ashland and as I drove over Page Hill I could barely see Mt Chocorua both going and coming. Mt Washington was really obscured as well. I could feel it in my lungs too! [yikes]

I do know folks who are managing to get out and climb here & there. It just seems to be totally dependent on the location and spur of the moment. For example, I saw folks had been climbing on dry rock on Mt Forist while it was drizzling here in the Valley and the same thing with folks up at Echo. It had been somewhat dry with broken clouds Tuesday morning. So I got on my gear to go for a bike ride and just as I got the bike out of the garage we had a full-on deluge. Yes - raining the proverbial cats and dogs! So I switched plans and went into town to the gym. It rained all the way past IMCS, but by the time I got to the gym it had stopped. And not only that, it had not rained there AT ALL! It remind me of growing up in Jacksonville FL. Every afternoon in the summer when I had to deliver my paper route on my bike it would pour down rain.

Last night I played my weekly gig at Saco River Brewing in Fryeburg and the weather was surprisingly nice right up till ~7:45 when I finished packing up and was driving back to Conway the predicted storm came through with thunder, a LOT of lightning, wind and rain. By the time I got hope it was barely drizzling... I don't know what to do or think any more and I am sure you all are tired of hearing me whine about it. So I will do my best to stop!

JUST STOP IT AL :-) STOP IT

SHAMELESS MUSICAL PLUG::
I am doing a show at the Majestic Cafe in Conway with the phenomenal guitarist Randy Roos on the 16th, a dinner show at the Wildcat Tavern in Jackson on June 22nd featuring award winning jazz vocalist Katie Oberholtzer and a band gig on the 24th at Ledge Brewing Company in Intervale. In addition I play every Wednesday through the summer from 5:30-7:30 with a revolving trio of friends at the Saco River Brewing Company in Fryeburg. We jam on a wide variety of tunes and it's a real gas. Not to mention that the beer is GREAT! Climb at Jockey Cap and come by for tunes and refreshments. PS there has been a fantastic food truck there as well. The Smashed Hamburger is highly recommended!
Ice Conditions Report:
Selected Ice Conditions effective February 19, 2026
Just as you would expect following Ice Fest AND a week of truly balmy temps, going to be upper 30's today, the ice can be a mixed bag. I saw someone post about how things are terrible. But digging into it, I realized they were talking about places like the North End that are very well used. It probably gets the most use of all. There are only a few places that have really easy access to moderate climbing and where you can set up a bunch of top-ropes. So that's not unexpected. And of course the climbs that are getting a lot of full sun are getting somewhat punked-out. On my way back from Wolfeboro mid-afternoon a few days ago I took a look at Rainbow Slabs which look as if they are getting pretty funky. And I watched a hunk of the bottom of Way In The Wilderness fall down! IMO it's really the time to start paying attention to what you're walking underneath, any time of the day. Enjoy this weather, but keep paying attention...

INSTANT BUG REPORT - 3:
Still VERY annoying, at best.

VALLEY CYCLING:
When it's dry the riding is great. Operative word is "when", so what else is there to say? Work has been done on the trails in the Hurricane Zone and there are new trails being created on Pine Mountain between Kennett and Rt 16. Stay tuned... The downhill bike park at Cranmore is now open YAHOO
