I got nothing to say, but it's OK... Except of course that starting tomorrow we will be in an official heat wave! We have had 2 consecutive 90 degree days and it looks as if it will repeat tomorrow. YIKES We likely won't break out of this pattern until late on Friday. IF it actually ever does!!!
That said after 21 days of rain in June and a couple in July already, we've gotten 10" of rain and the Saco is frikking HIGH right now. The river looks more like spring runoff rather than July tube fun. We have had a number of folks that needed rescues out there. Couple that with several rescues on the trails, including one death on Black Cap and several folks that slipped and were unable to walk out in various places. Things are slippery friends - just sayin'.
Ice Conditions Report:
Selected Ice Conditions effective February 19, 2026
Just as you would expect following Ice Fest AND a week of truly balmy temps, going to be upper 30's today, the ice can be a mixed bag. I saw someone post about how things are terrible. But digging into it, I realized they were talking about places like the North End that are very well used. It probably gets the most use of all. There are only a few places that have really easy access to moderate climbing and where you can set up a bunch of top-ropes. So that's not unexpected. And of course the climbs that are getting a lot of full sun are getting somewhat punked-out. On my way back from Wolfeboro mid-afternoon a few days ago I took a look at Rainbow Slabs which look as if they are getting pretty funky. And I watched a hunk of the bottom of Way In The Wilderness fall down! IMO it's really the time to start paying attention to what you're walking underneath, any time of the day. Enjoy this weather, but keep paying attention...

SHAMELESS MUSICAL PLUG::
July is a full slate of gigs and next week starts it all off. Private party on Tuesday the 4th with Jim McLaughlin Group, Wednesday 5:30-7:30 again with Jim at the Saco River Brewing Company in Fryeburg, one more with Jim & the boyz at Ledge Brewing Company in Intervale and then my steady bebop/funk jazz gig on the pier at Weirs beach on Sunday the 16th 6-9.
INSTANT BUG REPORT - 3:
Not too bad in the daytime unless you're in the deep woods. The early morning around dawn and twilight is quite another matter. At least that's my experience, this week.
VALLEY CYCLING:
Trails have dried out pretty well since Tuesday evening. Mainly 'cause it's been hot with no rain. Not sure what's up with the Hurricane Zone downhill trails tho. Gotta say that the Marshall and East Side stuff is generally riding well.

The hype pretended that M7, or 8, or 12 for that matter, had never before been climbed un thil the current practitioners rap bolted some overhanging choss heap, rehersed it, climbed it, did photo shoots on it, and treated it as commerce.
Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
