To paraphrase - "Ice climbers...we have ignition." [wry grin] YUP, at last we've pretty clearly got an ice season in hand. I sure hope all of you are as psyched as all the locals, the guides even I am about it. WOO WOO
As I'm also pretty sure you know that over the past week or 10 daze we've had some major snow/rain events. The most recent being all snow and dropping 6-10" of powder. Of course it happened right after my roof got rakes, but that's really unsurprising. HA... Needless to say the ski areas are all pleased as punch about that. It does make getting around in the woods here & there a bit on the annoying side, but that's winter in the Whites, right. It's been darn cold over the past several nights and it's going to stay cold for the next several days, so that's going to help keep the ice-building process going. Even into next week the cold nights and mid to low 30's daytime temps are perfect for the ice. Get out and enjoy it

Friday December 19 at 3:40 - it's 52 degrees and raining1 Almost all of the snow is already off my roof. It's supposed to go below freezing overnight, but get back above 32 during Saturday. You may want to seriously consider giving things a few days to recover. Just sayin...

VALLEY CYCLING:
Bear Notch Rd has been groomed and the snow machines are out there. Sawyer River Road has been used by snow machines, but it's not groomed and the other side of the road is not open at this time. Rogers Crossing bike trails were groomed 1/17/2024. This is cold dry snow so it may take a bit to firm up. Other trails in the area not so much. Thanks to White Mountain NEMBA for all they do.

Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
