Hi Folks,

I spent the multiple days working on the house and only managed to get out to take a few downhill runs at Cranmore both days. I just feel that the summer is slipping away, and if I don't get this stuff done winter will be here before I know it. Plus when you own a house and you live alone, sometimes it can feel overwhelming!

As everyone likely knows, we will be getting the remains of hurricane Debby passing through on Friday and Saturday. While the rainfall predictions for New Hampshire aren't absurd, only a couple of inches, Vermont is likely going to get clobbered once again. Sending positive thoughts to our Burlington and Lyndonville friends. [hugs] Be safe friends...

NEW REVIEW ON NECLIMBS:
Thanks to Dennis Crean for his sterling review of the Brian Hall book HIGH RISK, CLIMBING TO EXTINCTION. I haven't personally read it, but it looks like a good one. Check it out...

Ice Conditions Report:
Selected Ice Conditions effective February 19, 2026
Just as you would expect following Ice Fest AND a week of truly balmy temps, going to be upper 30's today, the ice can be a mixed bag. I saw someone post about how things are terrible. But digging into it, I realized they were talking about places like the North End that are very well used. It probably gets the most use of all. There are only a few places that have really easy access to moderate climbing and where you can set up a bunch of top-ropes. So that's not unexpected. And of course the climbs that are getting a lot of full sun are getting somewhat punked-out. On my way back from Wolfeboro mid-afternoon a few days ago I took a look at Rainbow Slabs which look as if they are getting pretty funky. And I watched a hunk of the bottom of Way In The Wilderness fall down! IMO it's really the time to start paying attention to what you're walking underneath, any time of the day. Enjoy this weather, but keep paying attention...

INSTANT BUG REPORT - 3:
A little less, believe it or not. Unless of course you're way out in the deep woods! And in that case DEET is your friend!

MUSICAL NOTES:
Amazing that I'm not gigging this week - other than my steady Sunday jazz gig in Weirs on the boardwalk. But actually that's OK, considering how busy I have been the last 3 weeks, and how busy I will be for the rest of the month! I have 4 shows coming up next week. Wednesday (8/14) I will be at Saco Brewing in Fryeburg with Jim McLaughlin, Friday (8/16) I have a concert with my band at Cate Park in Wolfeboro, Saturday (8/17) I will be at Big Day Brewing in Gorham and then back at Weirs on Sunday (8/18). I'm especially excited about Wolfeboro as I haven't played there in a long time and it will be good to see a lot of friends I haven't seen in several years.

VALLEY CYCLING:
I am continually amazed that the local trails are in such good shape considering how much rain we have gotten. I guess it's because it comes in big dumps and then is dry for 3-4 days. There are so many great places to ride here in the Valley, but if you haven't ridden the trails around the Albany Town Forest I recommend them. The main trails on the river side of the road are generally flat with some interesting views of the river. Plus you can go over and ride in the fields behind the Middle School. For some more interesting fun there is a much hillier loop trail across the road from the parking lot. If I remember correctly they are IN and OUT. I recommend them.

Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. While it doesn't offer every single feature of the site and it's not an "app", in mobile form, it does do a whole lot and is very useful. Here is the live link to the mobile version of NEClimbs:
