So my friends... Can we "put a fork in it"? My take on that question is a disappointed YES. [SIGH] And believe me, I am hating to make that assessment. I'd personally like nothing better than grabbing another week of hero-ice or great fat bike riding. But unfortunately that is simply not to be... I've told the story many times about climbing Dracula on Tax Day several years in a row with George Hurley. Unfortunately those days seem to be well in the past. It's time to either put away the ice gear and get ready for some rock, or plan to head up into the higher elevations. Or if you're so inclined, get in the car or on a plane and ROAD TRIP it. I can't get away this year until May, but I definitely plan on goin' somewhere.
BETH RODDEN:
Beth is a very well known rock climber who has just written her memoir about overcoming trauma, refusing to be held hostage by fear, and taking a leap toward healing. She will be giving a talk and book signing at IME Conway on Wednesday May 4th, 7-9pm. Tickets will be $10 at the door.
Selected Ice Conditions effective December 19, 2025
Friday December 19 at 3:40 - it's 52 degrees and raining1 Almost all of the snow is already off my roof. It's supposed to go below freezing overnight, but get back above 32 during Saturday. You may want to seriously consider giving things a few days to recover. Just sayin...

MUSICAL NOTES:
I will be at Tuckerman Brewing next Friday with my band featuring Mike Sakash (sax), Jarrod Taylor (guitar), Tom Robinson (keys), Craig Bryan (drums).
VALLEY CYCLING:
I had a look at Rogers Crossing this morning and it didn't look good at all. There was a narrow strip in the groomed trails that was packed, but on either side it was very soft. Not recommended at all... That said, Bear Notch Rd looked pretty well packed down, co it may be rideable. Tho I'm not sure how that would be after the upcoming rain/snow over the next 2 daze. I'm back on the road bike for the minute, mostly places like Passaconaway Road where the is VERY minimal traffic. Once Bear Notch and Evans Notch clear off, while they are still gated, I'll head over there as well. I gotta do something!
Mobile Version Of NEClimbs:
Up on one of the Mount Washington Valley's finest crags and want to know what that climb you're looking at is? Or maybe you're on your way up from Boston and want to check out the Ice Report for your upcoming weekend plans. Or more likely, you're at work just want to daydream about your next adventure. Well if you have a smart phone handy, you can get to NEClimbs from anywhere you have cell service. While it doesn't offer every single feature of the site and it's not an "app", in mobile form, it does do a whole lot and is very useful. Here is the live link to the mobile version of NEClimbs:
Check it out and if you have issues on your specific phone, please feel free to let me know.

The thrashing movements gave me the shuddering thought that if the stitching came apart, I would burst through the bottom and plunge two thousand feet. My life was hanging on the threads of an Oldham seamstress.
Climbing is a very dangerous sport. You can get hurt or even kill yourself. When you go climbing, you do so of your own free will. Everything on this site is to be taken with a grain of salt. Don't blame us if you get up some totally heinous route, in over your head and fall and hurt yourself.
