Climbing Area Index / Ethan Pond / Mt. Willey / The Lid Ran Away With The Spoon (WI 4 IV)
Directions:  The left-most climb in the amphitheater, in a right facing corner.
Description: Start up steep cauliflowered ice to a 30' vertical candelstick in the corner. Continue up easier ice and snow to a big dead pine tree.

Larry Boehmler describes how he and Jon Sykes came up with the name: "When we returned to the leanto for the night Jon couldn't find his spoon and lid to his cup. Of course he blamed me for hiding it. After much searching and (cussing by Jon ) we were unable to find any trace of it. So I said The Lid ran off with the Spoon and we both cracked up. It's nice to be able to laugh in temps of 0 degrees. At least the cursing stopped. Jon said that is what we will call the climb we are going to do tomorrow. And we did.
Gear: standard ice rack & possibly some pins and rock gear
Descent: rappel from trees
History:  December 17,2003 - Jon Sykes, Larry Boehmler
