Ice Routes at Pinkham Notch: Detention Crag: grouped by Area, sorted by Name
Crag picture
View of crag is from paved pulloff looking West. Rt 16 is visible in middleground.
Description: A nice East-facing crag with some nice moderate routes. Easy to get to and usually unvisited.
Directions: Effectively located in Pinkham Notch. Park in a large paved pullout on the right, 1 mile north of the Dana Place Inn. The crag is on the left (West) side of the road and easily visible from the pullout. Although there's no trail, it's only an easy 20 minute approach to the base of the crag.

The most obvious feature of the crag is Detention Corner, an obvious right-slanting corner on the middle/left side of the crag. On the upper left side, around the corner, there are some small ice flows in a small amphitheater that provide fun ice-bouldering.
Area Name Grade
far right Detention Flow WI 3
middle Dripline M5
middle Freezer Burn WI 4+
