Hall's Ledge is a fun crag which offers a variety of mostly single pitch routes. In spite of being hidden from view by treat, it gets sun for much of the day so the routes dry fast. The crag is made up of various rock types, but is somewhat reminiscent to the schist at Rumney. Thus in places you need to aware that the rock is really micha, which may not be totally stable! Although there are bolts this is not a sport climbing area and a standard rack will be needed to climb most of the routes!
James Dickson and Jonathan Garlough discovered the crag and found no evidence of previous climbers. The Chinos Mountain Club returned and added several lines from late October - late November. |
Hall's Ledge is located north of Jackson at Dana Place on RT 16, going towards Mt. Washington. Parking is at the Rocky Branch Parking Area, about .5 mile north of Dana Place. In the summer, the top of the crag can be seen across the street from the parking lot. There is quite a bit more hidden in the trees that you cannot see!
From the Rocky Branch Parking Area walk south down the highway to the bridge, walk into the woods on the South side of the bridge and look for the Hall's Ledge Trail sign. Follow the trail along the river and then uphill for about 1/10 miles until you come to a small field. Walk left (north) on a faint logging road staying on the berm/ridge above the river and left of the small swampy area on the right. After about 10 minutes look for a fairly obvious gully with boulders in it. Head uphill on the right side of the gully to the base of the crag. This approach will take approx. 25 min. As of 2013 there was red surveyors tape marking the trail. |
